Prime Time – The Free Funk Super Group

Prime Time began when Ornette took 4 young guys with him on a European tour in 1975 and got stranded there for 6 months when promoters or concerts fell through. Those 6 months in Paris resulted in the seminal album Dancing In Your Head. A sonic breakthrough. There has been nothing that funky and freely improvised before or since. Prime Time, DIY kinetic energy. featured two electric guitarists, two drummers, and sometimes two electric bassists. Bending rock instrumentation into a compositional and philosophical worldview dubbed “Harmolodics”. Black Rock M-Base Grateful Dead, Punk New Wave…. Coleman’s sound touching many movements.
